NIGHT VISION
Charlton Chase is a night navigation exercise that is incredibly hard work. We had four year 10 and four year 11 boys take part this year – both teams did exceptionally well and finished in good time for breakfast!

This term’s visit to our partner
school in Mombasa Kenya took
place over half term. Matt
Griffin and Nouri Saoudi joined
Mr Straw and Mrs Sharpe and
everyone was involved in
teaching the students at the
school as well as working with
the staff to share ideas and good
practice.
Our relationship with
Victory School is now stronger
than ever and we hope to
continue this link in our lessons
here at St Andrew’s.

We have invited Derek Landy author of the Skulduggery Pleasant series to come in and talk to students about his books on Monday 26 April. He will talk to year 8 students before lunch, answer questions and sign copies of his books during the lunch hour. There will also be copies of his books for sale.
Students presented their own
version of a Christmas
pantomime over two evenings
entitled “There’s Bother in the
Forest”. Over sixty children
were involved and Ms Hague,
Head of Drama commented on
the hard work, enthusiasm and
dedication of the performers.
Ticket sales and a
raffle were held in aid of the
Haiti Appeal and over £900 was
raised. Ms Hague would like to
thank all of the teachers who
helped with such a memorable
event, especially the design and
technology teachers and Mrs
Giacomelli who made the
performance a visual delight!
Sport Relief is a huge national campaign which gives students the chance to get active while raising cash to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both at home and across the world’s poorest countries. There will be various fund raising events during school finishing on Friday 26 March (Humanities Day) where there will be a whole day of sporting activities to participate in.
Jesse Kinshott-Acklan in 8MEK took part in an Ar t ‘Express Yourself ’ Competition where students were invited to portray their innermost feelings through art. Over 8,000 entries were received with a selection appearing in the School Artists’ Portfolio series including Jesse’s imaginative piece.
In February our U14 team played a hockey fixture in extreme conditions. Despite the downpour they won convincingly with some amazing goals from Oliver Fenton, Ryan Churcher, Will Miles and Joseph Hughes. A mention must go to Jake Vaughan who stepped in at the last minute and made some great saves in the process. They beat Angmering 5-0.
Year 7 students Sam Ashby and James Bracey completed a sponsored walk last month to raise money for the Haiti Appeal and raised over £170 in bucket collections alone. In total the school raised over £1700. We have sent our donation via Christian Aid. Well done and thank you!

Forty five year 8 students visited the Neasden Hindu Temple and experienced the Arti Ceremony where candles and music are used to worship the statues of Gods. A tour guide explained to the boys about the temple and they had access to the “Understanding Hinduism” exhibition.
Each school has to have a Disability Equality Scheme and ours is due to be reviewed. If any parent would like to help carry out the review of our policy, particularly if they have any experience with disability, please contact Mr Dykes at school.
